ACC Branding: Student Organizations and Clubs

Student organizations and clubs play a vital role in campus life at ACC. The more than 70 clubs and organizations are valued ambassadors of the ACC brand.

Using ACC’s name and/or logos implies an association with the College. Therefore, only registered student organizations, departmental student organizations, and intramural sports (referred collectively here as student organizations) may use the ACC name, an abbreviation of the name, or select College logos (in specific instances) as part of or in conjunction with their group name.

Approved users must adhere to ACC brand standards, including those outlined below. They cannot give other entities—internal or external—permission to use the College name or logo without prior review and approval by the Office of College Relations & Marketing (OCRM).

Using the College Name

Student organizations may create their own logos and identity, and they may use the College name within their group names:

  • Organizations may use “ACC” and “Austin Community College.” For example, LGBT eQuity at Austin Community College or ACC LGBT eQuity. 
  • Organizations may not use “Austin Community College Riverbats,” “ACC Riverbats,” “Riverbats” and “R.B.” as part of their group name.

Organizations may not use the ACC name in a way that could create confusion between the organization and the College itself. Any mark using the College name is subject to review and compliance with the standards noted here. OCRM will ask organizations to adjust or remove logos that do not adhere to brand standards, that interfere with the integrity of ACC’s official logos, or are determined to potentially confuse audiences as to their association with the ACC brand.

Custom Logos

Student organizations may create their own logos and identity. OCRM does not create unique logos for student organizations; however, any mark using the College name is subject to review and compliance with the standards noted here.

Custom logos for student organizations must adhere to theses rules:

  • They may not emulate, include, or incorporate any official ACC District logo, star mark or graphic element, including the official district logo or abbreviated logos, the ACC District Seal, Riverbat logo, or any retired marks. 
  • They may not include any words, symbols, or imagery that reflect poorly on the College. 
  • The organization’s full name should be included in the mark, along with identifying words such as “club” or “society.”
  • Using institutional fonts and colors is encouraged, although not required. Students should pay attention to the way colors are used together, making sure logos are legible. 
  • Logos may not include interpretations of ACC’s mascot R.B. This does not apply to school spirit items that are developed for one-time use, such as banners, signs, sidewalk graphics, t-shirts, and other items that are not for distribution.
  • The College’s name or acronym may be included as part of a design as long as it does not attempt to emulate one of the College’s logos. 

Registered Intramural Sports and Sport Clubs

Registered ACC intramural sports and sport clubs are allowed—but are not required—to use the Riverbat logos to promote their teams, create a sense of unity, and build brand recognition. If a team or club chooses to use College logos, the marks must adhere to the approved standards for logo use outlined in this guide.
